On 4 – 5 April 2008, UNESCO / CIGEPS working group “Sport and Culture” co-organized a meeting on traditional sports and games with the International Association on Traditional Wrestling Sports. This meeting coincided with the International Belt Wrestling Tournament which took place in Moscow, Russia from 4to 6 April 2008. IATWS and UNESCO have collaborated on several initiatives towards their common goal of bringing together traditional sporting associations to create a common platform for sports and cultural exchange, focusing on the promotion and preservation of TSG Worldwide. Since 2006, UNESCO and the IATWS have organized International Roundtables in Almaty, Kazakhstan and Ufa, Bashkortostan, a Regional Training Seminar in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, as well as participated in the 2007 European Traditional Wrestling Championships in Istanbul, Turkey and Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. |
